I’ve written on this site before about Vicky Tsai, Founder and the brains behind TATCHA, the brand that launched with the must-have and now cult blotting sheets, Aburatorigami, which I just can’t live without these days. Vicky and her team have carried on with their love and passion for geisha rituals with the launch of a simply gorgeous skincare collection, building on centuries of traditional Japanese rituals.
The skincare is all very well-thought out and a perfect extension for the brand. “Enduring beauty is a culmination of the wisdom of centuries”, and this is evident among many cultures–from Japan to mainland China to the Middle East, it is not uncommon to discover old, sometimes ancient and time-tested beauty rituals. Famed Cleopatra and her ways is one example, as are the bath houses and hammams around the Mideast.
Enter TATCHA. Gorgeous, simple packaging, and effective items including a serum, rice enzyme powder for the most perfect polish and a trademarked Hadasei-3 complex to balance and control hyper-pigmentation of the skin. Think geisha-like smoothness and clarity.
Vicky has proved to be somewhat inspirational, at least to me, in her path to creating and building TATCHA. It was not done on a whim,. Like so many pioneers, she was settled in a career with numerous prospects but opted for what she felt strongly about and pursued it. Studying, discovering and embedding herself in geisha culture all led to the new skincare range, coupled with time-honored rituals of the past she has grown to love. I am no longer surprised when we exchange messages with she being in Japan and me wherever work has taken me.
I’ve played with the skincare and it’s now part of the regimen. Polished, the rice powder exfoliant will bring the shine out in all skin types–and work to make it last. So many items promise a “glow” but this consistently delivers. The Deep Brightening Serum will change they way you feel about serums. It’s silky and will absorb so well you will want to use more and more.
Overall, I’ve enjoyed watching Vicky and her brand grow and am thrilled to welcome the latest into my own rituals. If it worked to perfection centuries ago, it is definitely worth working with today.
