from australia to new york, a hair haven

On a recent hunt for “lighter” hair products (summer is hopefully on its way!), I learned a few months ago via word of mouth about an Australian in NYC who I just “had to book”. That Australian, it turns out is Gregori Ruggeri (Greg for short), a NYC transplant who now calls the city home and is the only salon professional in town carrying the very chic line of EVO hair natural hair products.

I spent a little time with Greg, who left his native Sydney and as of last summer is officially now living and working in NYC. From his adorable and very cozy salon in lower Manhattan, he works his magic, offering his services in a serene setting that is smartly decorated. Even better, it’s never too “busy”. The morning I paid him a visit, just one client was in the house with me and according to the master himself, this is intentional. “We don’t want it too crowded here,” Greg says. “Two clients at most, at one time.”

So if there is one treatment you try this season, let it be the scalp treatment Greg offers. Using a French solution, the treatment removes dead cells, leaving the scalp cleaner and much more able to “breath”, thus leaving the hair shiny and looking healthier, too. If we exfoliate our skin, why not our scalp, right?

Greg is incredibly humble and always educates his clients, too. I learned a lot from him about summer hair care, how to maintain hair in heat and to keep color looking fresh. Totally worth paying him a visit!
