Danish-born, New York City-based Kirsten Kjaer Weis has worked with some of the best of the best as a makeup artist, and it is through her work she found the inspiration to create a pretty, compact and eco-friendly makeup line. “I believe women deserve the feeling of putting the best ingredients on their skin that the body actually celebrates and resonates with, not something it’s trying to fight,” explains Weis.
And we agree. For Spring 2012, Weis has released basic, neutral shades of color that will compliment just about every complexion. Certified 95% organic by Italy-based Consorzio per il Controllo dei Prodotti Biologici (CCPD), the Italian authority on organic certifications, Weis’ colors are not terribly trendy, but practical, cool colors that can work season to season.
The cool factor is, in my opinion, the packaging. Designer Mark Atlan worked with Weis to create deep-red cases that house the compacts, which are fully refillable. “Marc introduced me to a material called Zamac, an alloy of zinc, aluminum, magnesium and copper,” explains Weis. “It was a conscious choice due to its elegance, natural beauty and weight, which along with the closing click of the compact is like the sound of a classic Mercedes door closing. Although this metal is not recyclable, the compacts are refillable and the nature of the metal means that they gain a beautiful patina with age,” she says.
Atlan, for those in the know, is an award-winning designer who talent is well-known for his work at Helmut Lang, to name just one. Love it.
