To a certain (and somewhat vain) extent, make-up artist Sue Devitt is my hero. I was introduced to her line about five years ago at Barney’s New York while in search for my “color” after returning home to NYC only to find my beloved Stephane Marais had been removed from the US and was no more. Thankfully, personal shopper Etta S. and Sue-Devitt artist Harli Cohen Salazar on the Foundation level were kind enough to put me on. And its been a perfect match ever since. Sue Devitt Triple Seaweed Gel Foundation in Kimberley Plateau. 70% water, oil-free and the absolute perfect match for my cocoa skin. Yes, please! After Perfekt Beauty’s amazing Skin Perfection Gel in “Decadent” nothing comes this close.
Sue, who is renowned in the beauty industry for her international travels (see her Vieques and Kilimanjaro Collections) as being the major inspiration behind her colors, has infused skin-saving ingredients such as hyaluronic acid in her products, making them all the more practical to use. This fall, it’s all about eyes with the debut of her “Eye-Swirls”, to help brighten the under eye area and boost cell structure. Who doesn’t need this?
Sue is working on a round of personal appearances across the U.S. this fall, but I managed to catch up with her in between one her coast to coast trips. Read on for her skin-saving tips as we head into the winter season.
New Yorkers–Don’t miss your chance to meet and greet Sue Devitt this week in the City! Find her at Barney’s New York this Friday, October 29th. She’ll be on the Foundation level greeting clients and offering her tips for the perfect palette this fall.
As we head into cooler months, what is the best way to prepare the skin for seasonal changes?
Sue Devitt: Look for facial cleansing products that are gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin and that offer treatment benefits. Refresh the skin while gently removing makeup, impurities, and environmental pollutants. I prefer an anti-aging facial product such as a lotion. To optimize the detoxifying properties of a cleanser, apply and then place a warm, damp washcloth over your face for five minutes. The warmth will open your pores to remove impurities at a more effective level
How important is the right primer and or foundation in the fall?
SD: A treatment primer is very important. When applied before your foundation it creates a smooth canvas for makeup application and actually helps bind makeup to the skin for longer wear throughout an entire day.
The holidays will be here before we know it. What are you make-up picks for staying on trend holiday 2011?
SD: Smoky Metallic Eyes: Don’t be afraid to try metallic’s for the eyes and get ready to make a striking impact. This is a trend that keeps reinventing itself, as it’s synonymous with a sexy beautiful look that is sought after season to season. This season, the traditional smoky eye gets a makeover with a pop of gold or silver for a more elegant look. Also, red hues ranging from cherry to scarlet is another big trend this season.
