It’s a little over a year since I discovered Sweden’s Verso Skincare in London. The packaging is straightforward enough and the sell is a simple one–Retinol 8, a derivative of Vitamin A, is the key ingredient in the products. And in two simple words: it works.
Vitamin A is the key component in the coveted Retin-A that the mass market knows as “retinol”. Retinol today can be found in some face oils, night creams and be dispensed via prescription. It’s popularity needs little explanation–Vitamin A is great for the skin. There is a peeling, renewing and anti-ageing effect of retinol on the skin and Verso has got the science down to it six-step skincare range.
We’ve given Verso’s Foaming Cleanser and Night Cream a test run over the past four weeks and our curiosity led us back to the the brand’s CEO, Lars Fredriksson, to learn more about this first of a kind skincare brand. Read on to learn about the power of Retinol 8.
What prompted you to create Verso Skincare?
I strongly believe in simplicity in all aspects of life, including your skincare regimen. Using skincare should be easy and understandable, so I wanted to create the best anti-aging range possible while also using beautiful, timeless packaging. Being an active Vitamin A product with less irritation and less UV sensitivity, our Retinol 8 provides this simplicity with efficacious results, even for people who might not have been able to use Vitamin A products before.
Would you say this skincare range is for all skin types? And if so, why?
Verso has been developed for all skin types. However, people with very dry skin may need to add an extra moisturizer while people with very oily skin might find it too rich, therefore needing to use less moisturizer.
Would Verso be the best non-prescription alternative to Retin-A?
Yes, Verso uses a new patented Vitamin A derivative, which has been tested and proven to be eight times more effective than traditional retinol products. These results have been published in peer-reviewed journals. The uniqueness of Verso is that we are able to use less concentration than traditional retinol products while still achieving great results.
Yes, Verso’s Retinol 8 is less UV-sensitive and does not decompose as quickly as Retinol or Retin-A when exposed to UV. The Retinol 8 technology is less irritating compared to traditional Retinol and by far less irritating compared to Vitamin A acid (Retin-A). Verso also has less restrictions than Retinol & Retin-A and can safely be used during daytime. However, one should always use a sunscreen.
