International Makeup Artist, Yadim.

It is nearly fall. Warm-weather merchandise is trickling into our favorite boutiques, beauty look books are out and fall makeup collections are hitting counters for most brands, if not all. Who better than an international make-up artist on the rise to fill us in on the must-have’s and essentials as we head into cooler months and shorter days.

Meet Yadim. You may have learned of this California native last year via a New York Times profile. Or from his striking (and well-done) April Vogue Paris cover, as well as a May 2012 spread for Vogue China. Or, maybe you caught him backstage in New York leading the looks for Yigal Azrouel. Most recently, he led the team backstage at Kenzo during the men’s collections.

Either way, Yadim is not only one to watch or follow, but also one to admire. After meeting him in February, I’ve learned more about Yadim and his steady rise in the industry–he was named International Makeup Designer for Christian Dior Beauty this year. A big deal, given how young he is. All this aside, Yadim is quite fun to hang out with–who doesn’t love a guy with a sense of humor AND can work a mascara wand?

I found myself on a set earlier this spring with Yadim, where he was working his magic for a Bazaar editorial. Read on, and be inspired for your fall “look”.

Tools of the trade–A look inside Yadim’s “kit”.

What do you think will be the biggest trend for fall makeup?

A nude, glowing complexion. Smokey browns, bronze and khaki shades on the eyes, with flecks of gold metallics infused for added impact. Blushy nude tones on the lips for daytime, and bolder reds and burgundies for night time. Another big trend is graphic, architectural liner in place of the smokey eye.

What fall looks were your favorite during the shows in February?

I have to say I loved the look my team and I created for Kenzo–graphic architectural liner and multicolored lips.

What advice would you give to busy professionals that don’t have too much time to deal with makeup in the mornings?

Choose a couple key products like foundation and mascara. A touch of lip balm and you’re out the door. I love Diorskin Nude Foundation because it’s lightweight, but still provides the coverage you need.

What are some of your “must-have” makeup and skincare items?

A good cleanser, toner and moisturizer.  As a lip balm, I love Lucas’ Papaw Ointment. I’m also a big fan of Dior’s HydraLife Moist & Fix Spray for before and after makeup.
